Camera for good photography?

So I'm really getting into photography & I need a new camera. The camera I have now is really good but not the best. I think its a kodak easyshare m341. What I primarily want out of the new camera is the focus. For instance, when i focus in on a flower and it's crystal clear, yet the surroundings behind it are intentionally blurry. I can do that with my camera now, as it has a closeup setting, but I still feel it's not doing the best as it could be. Help?
